Benjamin Law  is a highly regarded author and journalist. His poignant and funny book, ‘The Family Law’, was made into an SBS TV series - but we really wanted him at our launch because of his participation in the SBS series ‘Filthy Rich and Homeless’, and his awakening to the tragedy of homelessness in our community.

That’s why we made thousands of origami houses and created this installation. We want everyone to have a home, and to end homelessness in this state. We are asking the Victorian Government to commit to a steady pipeline of new public and social housing, specifically 7,000 new homes per year for the next 10 years. We want the government to embed this commitment in its Ten-Year Strategy for Social and Affordable Housing. This is why we aimed for 7,000 origami houses in our campaign.

During lockdown volunteers and staff from CISVic member agencies, community members and school students have been very busy making these houses, and we even exceeded our target of 7,000!

So join us in this launch and help us send a strong and vibrant message to the Victorian Government that homelessness is something we care about and want addressed.
